We have just completed Stage One of our latest in-ground swimming pool build, utilising new XPS Thermal Insulating Blocks.
XPS thermal boarding is an Extruded Polystyrene closed cell board (XPS), these thermal blocks are an ideal insulating instrument that can speed the heating progress, (especially on season start up) and prevent minimal heat loss through the pools walls and floor(optional).
The pool itself (30ft x 16ft with a 7ft Hopper) has been dug and then assembled using Kafko 42” Resin Panels, integrated with a Country & Leisure Internal Corner Step, to be finished with a 30thou Plastica patterned floor and double tileband liner(again another first).
A (12 to1) lean concrete mix is built up in 6” layers between the inside of the Resin Panels and the inward face of the thermal blocks to strengthen and fill the walls of the pool. After a ring beam has been cast, a carefully executed (15 to 1) backfill is extended to the rear of the XPS Thermal Panels, packing the insulation blocks securely between the pools walls and surrounding ground, further strengthening the integrity of the design.
The Pool, including all plant room equipment, with other added ecological goodies such as remote 15 watt LED Lights, an Aquablue Salt Chlorinator which generates it own chlorine to sanitise the pools water, a 21kW air source HeatSeeker Heat Pump that only draws around 20% of the energy it outputs ( CoP 1 in 5), complimented with a grand landscape design utilising white Senlac Coping Stones and Buff Paving, is still on course to be completed within a three week period and a budget of £25,000.
Building in-ground swimming pools using these revolutionary techniques and equipment saves time and money against similar sized traditional pool builds, plus all our pools built this way have superior ecological advantages with further savings to be gained from future energy bills.
Payback time to cover the cost of adding the XPS Thermal Blocks to a pool build is predicated by the manufactures to be in as little as 3 years in some cases, but it is both the convenience of the speed at which the pool water heats and the minimal heat loss overnight that will attract a lot of interest and excitement from both potential and current pool owners to this revolutionary new product.
